So this is my most ambitious video yet...gone are the days for poorly put together 15 minute start to finish videos! AHhhh only joking...this took about 14 hours for me to do, and i don't have the energy to do one like this for a while...lets see where to start

CONGRATS to the bushman winners MMMMMMMMMMMMBOP! wonderful video...

anywho

I live in southern illinois one of the more beautiful places in the midwest...certainly the most beautiful part of illinois...I've been here about 5 years going to school and it has completely changed my life. I can't say how much these forests and streams deserve my (and everyones) honor. Sorry this video isn't filled with terrible humor like my previous ones, but it was time for peaceful reflection! (first time an exclaimation point was used in a sentence containing the word peaceful)... All the video was taken near the mississippi river. Those are infact real native american petroglyphs you see...i believe they were from around 1500 if i recall? anywho... what else...that is infact kathy in the video (subject of almost all my original songs...haha) anddddd the photos are from various locations... Cache River swamp is most of those green swampy ones...the furthest north cypress swamp in the US...The large cliffy ones are from Garden of the Gods wilderness On the east side of the state...That is a big ass millipede...and the others are from places all over the southern part of the state. Since i'm being sappy lets talk about a few things...First of all...My heart goes out to the youtube uke community and all my subscribers...the support and affection from around the world is something very unique to the happiness that our little four string friends bring us. and WHILE i'm on my soap box!

About this song: I believe it was written by Harry Belafonte based off of african music. This probably is my favorite song on the planet and i originally heard it from the Muppet Show where it was the finale. He says it is a song about how we are all part of the world...yet do we know each other well enough. We are made of the same things so why not get along.
I also read this as a song about our wild places. Without the wild things in life with world won't turn the way it should...in a figurative sense of course "We come from the fire/water/mountain..." This is OUR planet and whatever your religion or creed it seems fair to agree that the wilderness is inside of all of us. From the foods we eat to the water we drink. No matter how urban our surroundings it is impossible to get away from the basic principals of nature.

Lets talk about the woods...I'm reading a book "Last Child in the Woods" which is a look at how the modern child (myself included)'s relationship with the outdoors has changed over the past decade...Childhood obesity, ADHD, and social relationships can all be greatly impacted by exposure to the out of doors... (which is sorta what i do for my job...taking at risk youth out to learn coping skills...) So all of ya'llz with kids GET THEM OUTSIDE they'll thank you when they rule the world...Environmentalism is impossible if its practitioners don't know the streams and beaches they are trying to save. Believe it or not i am not a raving environmentalist...I but i believe the solutions to many of the worlds problems can be found in the woods. These are your forests...go walk among the giants.

wow what a great bit of rambling...

please enjoy...

  • That bit about religion & creed to the end of the paragraph is so well written & punctual. To the point I have a hard time believing it is your own words.

  • well it tis...i'm not as retarded as i look

  • I like your videos when they start with a picture of my feet overlooking a vast expanse. Keep it up.

  • tbat was the only photo i have of your feet sorry...

oh... CREDITS TO CARSON ON THE FEET PICTURE AND THE MILLIPEDE

  • Wow, so many things to say...

I've never heard this song, but it was very cool! I think 'Organic' describes the sound, very rooty...make any sense!? :)

    Didgeridoo...freakin' awesome.

Also living in Illinois, I truly don't appreciate the parts that ARE beautiful - thank you for reminding me!

Was the film taken recently? It didn't look as freezing out as it has been lately! :)

And even though it was more serious, I still laughed my ass off when you hit the pop bottle with the recorder! :)

  • i would appreciate it if you don't use dirty words like "organic" on my wall..children could be watching and I for one don't want to explain it two them..."when two people love each other very much"...muahaha!
