Legal assistance for online video marketing and other professionals is becoming increasingly important in our litigious society. So why are most attorneys and law firms still resistant to sharing legal information publicly? Entertainment law and New Media attorney Gordon P. Firemark answers these concerns and explain why there are more forward-thinking lawyers like him that are bucking the trend.

INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT WITH GORDON P. FIREMARK, ENTERTAINMENT LAW ATTORNEY

Gordon Firemark Interview Hi I'm Gordon Firemark. I'm an entertainment lawyer here in Hollywood, California. I help creative professionals and business people and producers and the like in the fields of theatre, film, and television, to make and negotiate the deals, the contracts that they need, in order to get their product out to the market and their projects made.

Now that doesn't mean I am using some high-tech studio gear to do the video that you're watching right now. This is just me with my personal camcorder here in my home office, in front of a little green screen, which is just a little trick you can do as you get a little more advanced. But it can sure be a lot of fun

I've been using social media like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn for, you know, quite a while; and I've had a blog. My blog is at Firemark.com, for about 10 years now. I've only recently started using video. I've also had a podcast for a couple of years. But the video is really new to me. I'm using it to promote my practice, and I'm having a good time seeing some really positive results.

I've been writing a column called "Asked and Answered" for my blog, and it's actually for a publication that serves screenwriters, and I repurpose it on my blog. And, one day I just decided instead of writing out the answer, I would do a quick video just using the computer laptop, with a little camera there in my laptop. And it worked out pretty well. I posted the video on YouTube, and put it up in my blog and in my e-mail newsletter. And of course I linked to it from my twitter account, my Facebook account, my LinkedIn account, and so on.

I had got some really really positive feedback from that first one, so I've kept going. Now I'm posting about one a week. I actually record several at a time because they're only a minute or two long.

My goals with video are really just to increase my visibility, and keep me out there as a thought leader, and drive traffic to my website where I have more information about what I do; and how to contact me and how to hire me to represent them.

It's really pretty easy, answering questions is a great way to do this kind of thing; because they're the softball questions, the frequently asked questions that you get; and you already know the answers, so it's just a matter of clearing your head and getting your thoughts together, and recite the answer to the question.

So that's what I do with video, and how I use social media to promote my business. I hope you found this interesting. Thanks very much.
