Guide Dog Puppy "Dave"

This video is dedicated to my puppy Dave. These pictures are from the year that we spent with him. Dave is from the Guide Dog Foundation in Long Island, NY. The love of a puppy raiser is like no other. I will remember this experience for the rest of my life. I wish Dave and his future partner the best of luck and lots of happiness.

I will allways love you Dave, no matter what happens. Sometimes you have to let go of the ones you love, so they can move on to bigger and better things.
I'll miss you terribly, but there is someone out there who needs you more than I do. Their life will depend on you, and you will be their sight. It's a big job, but I know you can do it.

**2010 Update: Dave was released from all programs due to a medical issue. He went through training and it was found on his final exam. Dave was VERY happily reunited with me in August of 2010. He is going to be fine, and will live the spoiled life that he very much deserves. I was very lucky to get him back. He's a very special dog.

*Sob* It takes a very special person to raise a guide dog puppy.You must be so strong and giving.I cold never do it,because I would get too attached to the dog! But it's a good thing that there are caring people like you who can do it. I have a friend who has a black Lab who was going to be a guide dog,but she failed the test,so my friend gets to keep her,but they will use her for breeding.You and Dave Rock!!

My tears couldnt stop.hope dave boy goes to a real good person who will appreciate and love him. But pls pls do regular check on them as i do see clips of guide dog being abused by the person. Poor doggie, was there to contribute and help yet was ill-treated by the person. Very very sad.

hey great video! I just wanted to know what was it like to give the dog back after the year together ?? was it hard to cope or did you have other pets in the house or does that even help? I know it's for an amazing cause and I'm seriously thinking about taking on a puppy. I'm 16 and i have a gap year in school next year so it would be the perfect time ! would love to know what it was like after giving him back, how you handled and any helpful advise you have! thank so much!!!

I am dreading saying goodbye to my guide dog in training, but it is something I have to always be prepared for. This has prepared me for the sadness, pride and happiness I will have to face..all very varied mixed emotions. Thankyou for posting this beautiful tribute. I know thanks to you, Dave has gone on to be someones friend, companion, eyes and miracle.
