Craig Hood's acoustic guitar and voice arrangement of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil's beautiful song "Shades of gray" originally made famous by the Monkees in their 1967 Headquarters album.

The guitar arrangement is roughly based around the piano on the Monkees version.

Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil have written a massive amount of great songs that have been big hits for huge stars.
I chose to learn this song and also "It's getting better" (Mama Cass) simply because I thought they were great songs, it was a few years later that I found out they were written by the same people.

  • Your rendition of the Monkees tune was filled with thoughtful, careful, musical talent. Very enjoyable!

  • I was just thinking this song deserved a re-make - it's almost like "Both Sides Now" - never knew that Mann / Weil wrote it, but it makes sense now that I do. Very good job!

  • beautifully done! You've given me the energy to get out my 12-string Ovation. Haven't played it in nearly 10 years!

  • THAT WAS OUTSTANDING!!

  • Not bad at all!

  • Yes! Is Splendidly!*****
