EP.140.0 AUG 31ST 2011 QMJHL PRE-SEASON SEA DOGS VS BATHURST

The Saint John Sea Dogs fell in a shootout to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in their final exhibition game of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League pre-season.

Danick Gauthier had a goal and an assist for Saint John, while Ryan Tesink, Alexandre Beauregard and Oliver Cooper added singles. Jason Seed chipped in two assists. Mathieu Corbeil got the start in goal and stopped 19 of 20 shots. Sebastien Auger handled 13 of 16 shots in relief and three of five in the shootout. Pierre Durepos had the lone marker for the Sea Dogs in the shootout.

After a scoreless first period, Tesink broke the deadlock on a power play 1:07 into the second. Christophe Lalancette equalized just 31 seconds later.

Beauregard put the Sea Dogs back in the lead at 19:04 of the middle frame, roofing a wrist shot high over the glove of Robert Steeves.

Many in the crowd of 1,575 hadn`t even found their seats when Sebastien Trudeau evened things back up at the 47-second mark of the third period.

But Saint John took advantage of another power play when Gauthier beat Steeves at 8:38. Gauthier then set up Cooper with a beautiful backhand spin pass at 9:20, and the Sea Dogs appeared to have the win salted away.

Zach O`Brien and Christophe Losier had other ideas, however, scoring at 17:58 and 18:48 to send the game to a shootout.

Durepos opened the breakaway contest with a goal, beating Steeves with a quick shot to the blocker side, but four other shooters were unable to duplicate the feat. Stephen MacAulay rang Saint John`s fifth and final attempt off the inside of the post, setting up Jeremie Blain`s shootout winner.

The Sea Dogs finished the pre-season with a record of 2-2-1.
