Curtis Nowosad has quickly become a first-call drummer in the city of Winnipeg. At twenty-one, he has already performed in big band and small group settings with some of New Yorks finest jazz musicians, including Marcus Printup, Ted Nash, Steve Wilson, Miguel Zenón, and his teacher and mentor Steve Kirby. As a member of Kirbys Monday Night Hang House Band, Curtis has the distinct opportunity of performing weekly with George Colligan and Jimmy Greene. In addition to having opened for such artists as Wynton Marsalis and The Bad Plus, Curtis has also performed at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Vancouvers The Cellar, and Edmontons Winspear Centre. Curtis plays periodically with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, and can be heard on Marco Castillos Brazilian Season, as well as Keith Prices Breakfast of Champions. A student in the University of Manitobas Bachelor of Jazz Studies program, Curtis is a pupil of the great Terreon Gully and has received several awards for his playing, including an Oliver Jones Scholarship. Curtis is also active as a composer, arranger, private teacher, clinician, and journalist.
