Linda Beckman with Repent America (RA), and one of the Philadelphia 11, featured in a television commerical opposing the proposed federal "hate crimes" law. The bill, formally known as the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007, has been renamed the Matthew Shepard Act. It was approved by the House of Representatives by a vote of 237 to 180 on May 3, 2007. It was then approved by the Senate by a voice vote on September 27, 2007. The bill died not long after, but most likely will be reintroduced later this year.

  • It would depend on what the pamphlets said. Freedom of speech does not include the right to encourage violence against other people.

  • That's what Christians do - go out to preach the Gospel, not just sit back and wait for people to come to them.

People who go out in to the world and preach the Gospel have always encountered hostility, especially when they go in to rough areas.

America has the 1ss Amendment to protect speech that upsets others, if the only speech that is protected is speech that doesn't upset anyone anywhere, it doesn't really need protection.

USA has done well with 1st Amendment. Let's not give it up

  • there are many cases in the uk too!

  • @92keys524 I try to search for the truth as well only to find that everything is fiction. Few people are capable of truthfulness because they so dearly want to mold the word to fit their personal ideas. We are all guilty of it, but some people dedicate their lives to “spinning” stories and clearly lose touch with any sense of “truth.”

  • Subbed please sub back

  • "Sending grandmothers to jail goes too far" Really? So we should let them be above the law then?

  • i believe hate should play a small role in deciding figuring the sentence that people will serve for violent crimes. nonviolent crimes like this shouldn't even have the hate espect attached to them.

  • @SOBEKsRAINBOW Her arrest was not in vain. At least one soul received Salvation out of her imprisonment. In her words that was worth going to jail for.

She was arrested for not paying her fines. Which she also helped stopped one abortion before the first arrest. Saving the life of an innocent baby.

Sounds like she still done the work of God behind bars. LOL To me I would be happy to go to jail if I can save a life and a soul.

  • You promote hate, you SHOULD face consequences!

  • Senile granny ..

  • I do not know who Linda Beckman is, but if this case is like the others, she is not as innocent as she puts on. Freedom of speech has a limit; your rights end where someone else's begin - even if you believe that you have the right to override others.

Case in point - Randall Terry. He claims he is persecuted for his speech. Problematic...until you realize he has caused the deaths of dozens of people by distributing their personal information and talking about how they are better dead.
