The only reference I have for this sort of music is free jazz and Frank Zappa. But neither has this amazing soulful voice on top of it all!

O man! This really takes me back! I saw him round about this time in concert in Liverpool. He was amazing! When he arrived he made a sequence of new paintings to exhibit and I was lucky enough to be helping out in the gallery. So I actually got to meet him and help hang the pictures (some of which were still wet). He was a wonderful man, easy and kind and above all totally self-contained within his art. He was friendly and encouraging to all around him.

Not to start "one of those threads" but it's so amazing to compare this to e.g. the Beatles or the Stones. Not at all bad bands or anything but they're mostly just "enjoyable" whereas this STILL sounds forward thinking. RIP Cap'n
