I spent some time in Hervey bay, on a boat, stalking the whales that visit the area. Having spent the winter in the Great Barrier reef, giving birth to their calves, they journey down the coast of Australia returning to the Antarctic for the summer.

The vessel was the Moon Dancer, and a small group of us had paid to volunteer to help with the research undertaken by Trish and Wally Franklin PhD.

The Oceania project is studying the transitory Humpback whale population in Hervey bay, Queensland, Australia.

Anyone can sign up to help out with the research.

wow...i'm amazed at this video. the whales are so gentle for their size. i've always wanted to go on a whale watch but everyone i know gets sea-sick. i should just go on my own. oh well.

these sperm whales are smart , maybe lot smarter than us ,i get pissed when the japs make soup frm parts of them , i eat fish but whale meat there's where the law should step in an it does't matter what part of the world you are killing them is bad , the same as killing a person and should be taken that way too ! right ?
