In this video, for those of you who are considering making a solar oven from your round grills you use for cookouts, I encourage you to not only keep the interior black, but line with some black tiles to help retain heat and keep oven temps even.
Putting vessels inside another black vessel creates a good oven. One video I need to put up I show that in my slantfaced oven, the temp was 200, BUT, the bag put inside the oven, closed up the inside of it reached 250. It had reached 250 before the interior of the oven itself even hit 200. I cook things alot faster by doing this. I have problems with cloud cover, so time is of the essence. Thanks for the comments!
I have found some nice large black graniteware at a local second hand shop. I use the oven in oven technique by using the bags too inside a box oven, been needing to post that. I have bags with hole in them, and I put the holes down on the bottom so it don't steam up the oven so much. they part that has no holes, make a nice window replacement for some of my other ovens.
Those black graniteware pots used for canning are ideal for solar cooking... black, metallic, nontoxic. Sun Ovens come with 3 qt. graniteware. Sun Oven Co. sells the pans separately. If you use those, you can put any color vessel inside like white Corningware which is what I use. Just use the black graniteware top so the sun only "sees" black. Another thing I've found is that a hole in your turkey bag, doesn't seem to cook food any slower, so you can still use old bags with holes worn in them.
