Over the last couple years the tracks between Bradford and Barrie had been condemned and out of service. This clip shows some of the rejuvenation work that has been done to bring these tracks back up to standard. Also note that the maximum speed here is 80, fast compared to most limits on the line. These signals strictly serve a private driveway with one home. Quite a crossing for them!

  • @rolls283 Oh so they've struggled? That sucks. Its the same out in Niagara with Trillium Railway (TR). Although, i don't suggest CN taking over it again. CN doesn't know how to do industrial switching anyways, they treat their customers badly. I think BCRY should be taken over by Rail America. Same with TR. RA treats their customers well and will probably get the loads back to a maximum of 50 cars. BCRY unfortunately is too small of a company to be successful, RA is a very big company.

  • @RailfanDaniel as long as I can remember, the BCRY thru Barrie has only had 1-10 cars in tow, depending on the orders companies it serves place.

when CN came through, there'd be anywhere from 1-50 cars in tow... that ended in 1995 (maybe 1998) and BCRY has struggled since the take over

  • @ALuimes Looks like it's a public road. Also it's on a curve with passengers able to go 80 mph and freights at 60 mph. They need to give cars warning at that speeds, even if the road traffic doesn't warrant it. They don't want a road-train accident at those speeds...

  • Why would GO or CN install a GATED crossing for a driveway? What a waste of money. A Private Crossing sign would have been sufficient!

  • Ha I think I saw you guys filming, I go to scalen creek sometimes to watch the trains come home. It''s right near there and I drove near that crossing last week and saw some people with cameras.

  • That's awesome some guy owns a completely protected railroad crossing! Wow, if i lived by the tracks and my driveway crossed over the tracks i'd definately pay for that! With asking for horn warning protection as well. Nothing more you could ask for!

  • BTW, im surprised there is still and industrial freight through Barrie daily. Rail freight service is slowly depleting over North America. The Oakville Sub between Mimico and Union Station no longer have any freight activity. Eventually the Barrie Collingwood Railway will be gone. Its unfortunate. Trucks are starting to rule freight transportation.

  • Great video! Im glad GO has really worked to get the service back to Barrie renovated to great shape! 80mph is very impressive. Im surprised GO actually got the speed limit up that high. Obviously they'd do so some renovating, but usually only to allow 50mph service. Well, it is a 24 minute run between Bradford and Barrie. It would probably be 35 if they didn't raise the speed limit. I hope GO will eventually make more of the Barrie line 80mph so the 1 and a half hour trip can be shortened.
