Here are the locos that were involved in the UP vs. MW truck on 8/24/09. UP 7218 and UP 6771. A total of 5 loaded coal cars were also involved.

The two trucks are sucking up the coal that spilled out of the cars.

From good sources, here is what went down. Razorback was a contractor performing some cleanup work on the KCT. They had track and time on mains 3 and 4. The contractor gave up their time on main 4 and kept main 3. Their truck was still on main 4. The dispatcher lined a train by on main 4 and struck the truck at about 28 mph. The driver jumped clear before impact and suffered no injuries. The front window on the locomotive on the conductors side was shoved completely in and the handrails were damaged as well. There were no injuries to the train crew. The impact with the truck (loaded with a slurry) knocked main 3 out of alignment by about 1 1/2'

Contractor error, not dispatcher.

  • at least the engine is under warrenty.( it says so in small letters under the fisrt side cab window) also where is track 1?

  • There are only 3 actual mains there. #2, #3, and #4. I guess that main 1 used to be there back in the day.

  • where the vacume trucks sucking up coal?

  • F..... Truck!!! Doesn't it know that it costs MILLIONS of dollars to get the locos fixed??!!

  • That train that was rounding the curve at the end, was it the same one that hit the truck?

  • Oh is the train ok?

  • WHAT THE HELL?!

  • Wanted-train repair company...reward?-lots of work for the next 6 months !!

  • Its amazing the Driver was able to jump out of his truck..hadn't he been able to, then there would have been more than tire tracks on the side of that engine

  • Tire tracks on a diesel locomotive..Not something you see every day... Was that engine still able to run?
