First parsley worms destroyed my parsley. Now cabbage worms are annihilating my broccoli. I'm so glad I'm providing an all you can eat buffet for the neighborhood bugs.. o.O

  • did u no that caterpillars excrete this substance that stay on your hands for a very long time? its poisonous. i dont no about this form of caterpillar.

    Kool vid, its Massive!!

  • I don't think they secrete anything poisonous to us. Maybe to birds and other animals that want to eat them, but probably not to humans.

  • I rarely see the caterpillars. I only saw them in high school when we were raising them. Most of the time, I just see their adult butterflies flying around on sunny days.

  • It's the opposite for me. I think I've only seen one adult flying around our backyard.

  • That is a LOT of damage, must suck :[ Can the plants bounce back after that? Or are they just toast

  • The plants started coming back again. But each time they do, so do the worms. It's too cold now to tell for sure how they'll do in the future. I'll see in the spring.

  • These caterpillars are such freeloaders! They get free rent in the garden, free meals, they damaged my garden too. They even attack pumpkins, if it's edible, they'll try and eat it. They're just chilling like "why work"?

  • Ah. I see a LOT of the adult butterflies. They especially love my butterfly bush (as do Tiger Swallowtails)

  • It's amazing how fast they can do that much damage. They weren't nearly as big as the parsley worms I had over the summer. The one at the beginning of this video wasn't even an inch long. He was about 2 centimeters.

  • No. Well, not intentionally. They've done this once before, so I poured some soapy water on the broccoli to make it taste yucky to the worms. They just left last time, no harm done. This time, I must've used too much dish soap, because I checked on them later and they were dead. The one that I took inside for a little bit lived though, even though he got soapy water on him too. I'll be more careful next time. I didn't want to kill them, they're cute and make pretty butterflies :(
