A talk on NPMs virtual museum Arago and hands on history through stamps and postal objects by Alexander Haimann at Saks Middle School, Anniston, Alabama, April 29, 2009.
There's no reason for the spoken-word audio track in this 45 minute video to be 44kHz stereo. Internet bandwidth has a carbon footprint, too. That track could function just as well at 22kHz mono. It would be less than a quarter of the data, and hence a quarter of the energy used to create it, edit it, store it, transmit it and view it.
It's a bit surprising that the Smithsonian (of all places) doesn't practice data conservation techniques in their educational multimedia.
