TURN UP YOUR SOUND ON 1ST PART OF NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY
The Otterbein Cemetery is said to be haunted by several ghosts including figures that pop up and vanish. The ghost of a young calm man has been seen standing by the Walnut Street entrance to the graveyard. He seems to watch visitors approach, but then disappears before people can speak to him. A house across from the cemetery is haunted by a friendly ghost-that of a beloved grandmother. People see shadowy human figures that suddenly vanish.

The most haunted part is the cemetery's largest mausoleums. A dark shadowy shape is most often seen here. Another ghost is said to enter a sleeper's dreams and take them to this cemetery.

The cemetery was investigated during several nights using an infrared camera. On one night ghastly sounds could be heard, although they were faint. I didn't try to figure out what the sound was. There is a dark, steep, thickly wooded ravine on the west side, where even by daylight a person can tumble down the long Alum Creek River bank and catch poison ivy, so I didn't go looking. The sound was faint and some distance away. At first I thought it was a screech owl, but after replaying screech owl sounds, I'm not too sure, because the screech owl sound contains trailing trilling or wavering notes and this sounded more like screaming. When I heard the sounds in real life, they were faint and I was surprised that the camcorder picked them up. I heard sounds at approximately: +1:52, 1:56, 2:00 +2:04 2:08 +2:18 2:22 +2.26 +2:28 and +2:34 on this video (the ones with a + in front seemed louder.) At 2:04 I said, "You can definitely hear a spooky sound" and paused between the words "hear" and "a" for the sound. The timing of the sounds did not seem to be that of a standard police, emergency, or fire siren.

Another interesting sound was a quiet roar, while I was filming the inside of the mausoleum in the dark. A few streaks flitted across the video. An s-shaped thing turns into a swirl at around 3:02/4:58. I, of course, don't know what a ghost looks like in infrared, but maybe I'll figure out how to look for them after I film some more. The last part of the video shows a ride through the cemetery on a foggy night.

Otterbein College was founded as the Otterbein University of Ohio in 1847 by the Church of the United Brethren in Christ and was named after a church co-founder, Philip Otterbein, a participant with Martin Boehm in the "Great Meeting" that took place in the Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania historical markers say it was during the "Great Meeting" that the first American-born religious denominations began--the Church of the United Brethren in Christ and the United Methodist Church. Otterbein was noted for its abolitionist stand. Otterbein's Benjamin Hanby, who is buried in the graveyard, was the songwriter who composed "Darling Nelly Gray" and the Christmas carol, "Up on the House Top," among other well-known songs.

The graveyard is located by Alum Creek along an Underground Railroad route, which continued on to Africa and Mt. Vernon, Ohio. This route was also notable for its relationship to Dan Emmett, who wrote "Dixie" among other classics, and lived in Mr. Vernon.

The mausoleum was built in 1923. Its interior was constructed of beautiful Vermont marble and its exterior is composed of Bedford Stone. It has seven cathedral styled stained glass windows that contain symbols of the seven major world religions. Its stained glass windows are very beautiful, but don't show up well from the outside.

***Part of a Series To Be Continued***

More investigation will be conducted on this and other cemeteries. If anyone knows what a ghost filmed in infrared looks like, please let me know.

  • Did anyone notice that sort of orb thing what most skeptics always say are insects at around 2:29 but if you look closely straight after orb incident there is also a sort of ghostly figure which is walking towards the camera! It almost looks as if its a drunken person but it could not be possible as the uploader would have mentioned it for 1,another reason it seems to me like an old sort of woman walking with almost a limp did anyone else spot it? Thumbs up if you did! thanks good video MRTOSH
