It was a first for IndyCar and the Las Vegas Strip. Last night all 34 IndyCars that will be racing on Sunday's IZOD IndyCar World Championship drove a few laps around the Las Vegas strip. In an interview with Pat Mauro, Scott Dixon mentioned that he thinks it's the first time they've ever shut down the Las Vegas strip. It was fun to cruise around the strip, admitted Dixon, but it felt a little weird to be doing 40-50 MPH in that car when he's used to driving over 200 MPH on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
We had heard rumors that the crews were rumbling about having to do the Las Vegas strip cruise, and Dixon admitted it was quite a logistical nightmare. Everything they're doing was at the track and they had to pick up everything, including the truck and 20-30 crew members and bring it to the strip. Plus, trying to park a semi-truck on Las Vegas Boulevard is no easy feat.
