Tinplate Putt Putt Boat

This is what you get when you take to a Milo tin with a pair of tinsnips, a soldering iron, and add a bit of copper tubing. The steam engine powering this boat is probably the simplest type of engine there is. It works as follows: Initially the tubing is filled with water. Heat from the candle turns the water to steam which expands rapidly, shooting a jet of water out the back, creating the thrust which moves the boat forward. The steam is then in contact with cooler parts of the pipe, and so it condenses, creating a low pressure which draws more water in to restart the cycle. These engines are very inneficient at converting heat to thrust, and so are pretty much useless for anything other than toys.
