One of the greatest classics ever made. This animated movie was produced by Filmation before the 1979 Flash Gordon cartoon series, but did not actually air until 1982. It is considered the best film version of Flash Gordon, though it would never be broadcasted again following its premiere because the story is associated with Hitler's Third Reich. It was written by Star Trek writer Samuel A. Peeples, directed by Gwen Wetzler and more or less faithfully follows the early Alex Raymond comic strip adventures.

  • @UltimateThanos He-Man was rotoscoped, the same as Flash Gordon... I think you need to go back and see your DVD's again, 'cause Filmations animation was never bad. Never. The art style, too, is absolutely wonderful, dont you think? all-american cartoon heroes should look like Filmations artists drew them =)

  • It's a damn shame Filmation won't release this fantastic animated film, as the 1940s time line shouldn't prohibit a DVD copy, especially when most 21st century people realise the atrocious errors of the World War 2, after all it's an animated feature not Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf.

  • Still remember the music. Think NBC skipped the war intro.

  • @hcvang obviously you've never seen /watch?v=32FB-gYr49Y

  • OMG just saw the whole thing...off the hook....belly dancers, Hitler, half naked Aura..what else do u want?

  • This would air occasionally on a Saturday morning on ITV in the UK during the 80s. I videotaped it and nearly wore the tape out...I do have a soft-spot for the Mike Hodges film and the Buster Crabbe serial, but this really is the best version of Flash Gordon story...

  • I've seen the 79 series but not this.

  • This type of animation sort of reminds me of the early superman cartoon films that were made.

  • Like Dido said, "And I want to thank you. For giving me the best day of my life."

This show was the highlight of my Saturday Morning.
