In 2001, Brendan Mullen contacted Chuck Nolan to includes excerpts from his Zolar X interviews for his definitive book on L.A. punk rock, We Got The Neutron Bomb.
Chuck went on to work on a Zolar X documentary and continued his correspondence with Brendan until Brendan's untimely passing in 2009. A phone call to Brendan Mullen was generally a 1-2 hour thrill ride of L.A. punk anecdotes. He was friendly and overflowing with encouragement. Brendan was a good man and he'll be missed.
We present an outtake from the upcoming Zolar X documentary Starmen on Sunset - in tribute to Brendan.
Thanks,
The Starmen on Sunset production team.

(continued). I say, "no Brendan, but actually Rhaine and Ygarr (of Zolar X) have been hitting it off!" Brendan looks up at me amazed, and says "Ygarr?" I chuckle, and go "yes!" Brendan looks back down, continues signing, and with perfect comedic timing, says "...why that salty old dog!" I (and everyone else when I told them the story in the car) was laughing about that all the way to the next interview! A very cool guy - I'm glad to have crossed paths with him during his time here.

My favorite Brendan Mullen story is this: We (Rhaine Hessinger, now Mrs. Ygarr, 2nd camera man Kristopher Zander, and I) had just finished wrapping up Brendan's interview. We walked out the door, in a hurry to make our next appointment. I realized I had forgotten to have Brendan sign the release for his interview. I knocked on the door, as my partners were loading up the car, and Brendan let me back in, and he proceeded to sign. He looked at me, and asked me if Rhaine was my girlfriend.

Part 2:
I also remember him showing me how to have a proper drink on tthe rocks - not a couple of sad ice cubes but sparking glass full of ice -drink poured over the top
Well Brendan, I raise my drink 'on the rocks' to you and will always have a pint ready for the spare man (one of Len's closing time ruses)

RIP Brendan Mullen
I was a friend and former team mate of his brother Leonard who was a great runner (he was in the beach scene in Chariots of Fire), also now sadly passed away
Brendan visited Stockport around 12 years ago ,I went with him to the Boardwalk in Manchester. Within 5 mins he was chatting with some guy propping up the bar. Later I hear the guy was managing the Railway Children and Brendan had just arranged for them to play in his club!
