A major winter storm will continue to impact much of Southeast
Michigan through the evening hours...
Heavy snow will continue through the evening hours... with
additional accumulations of 2 to 6 inches expected... for total
snowfall accumulations of 8 to 12 inches with isolated amounts up
to 15 inches across the tri-cites and northern thumb region. Snow
will quickly taper off and end after midnight. Heavy snowfall
rates... blowing snow... coupled with reduced visibilities of a
quarter mile or less at times will make driving treacherous
through midnight... with near blizzard conditations north of I-69.
Travel is strong discouraged.
This was a good storm.
In NE Detroit, we saw heavy rain/thunderstorms on the night of February 5th, then it switched to freezing rain/sleet on February 6th before changing to heavy snow (2.5" per hour rates) after 4 PM. We picked up a quick 5" in 2 hours. The NWS thought about upgrading us to a Witner Storm Warning, but they left us with a Winter Weather Advisory instead. I think there was thundersnow with this in spots.
