Muslim Kung Fu Master part 1

This is a profile of Washington D.C.s famous Muslim Kung fu Master Sifu Muhammad and shows how Islam plays an important role in his life and his art.

Over the course of centuries philosophy behind Chinese Kung fu has been influenced by Budhism, Hinduism and Islam. Ever since the Communist government took over in China, religion has been discouraged and these spiritual influences in Kung fu have been seen negatively under Communism. In order to bring Kung fu philosophy in line with the Communist doctrine, Chinese government removed religious influences from it and promoted a modernized version of this ancient martial art called "Wushu."

When Kungfu was being turned into Wushu, many traditional Chinese Kung fu masters looked for foreigners whom they could teach their art along with its traditional ethics and spirituality. One of these was an American Sifu Muhammad. This long documentary tells the story of Washington based Muslim Kung fu master Sifu Muhammad and his interactions with Chinese and Islamic cultures.

islam didn't influence chinese martial arts it influenced indo/malaysian arts it just so happens those arts are highly influenced by chinese martial arts. I personally prefer indonesian arts to chinese ones.
