In this tutorial we create a functional and fun alarm clock that will wake you up at different times throughout the week with different songs from your collection. This is a great way to learn Cron scheduling and see how easy it is to control scheduled events in Linux. More tutorials at www.opensourcebistro.com

  • Oct. 12, 2011. Vectorlinux just posted latest release candidate rc 3.4 on Distrowatch website. This is a much newer than used in this video. This should be last RC before final release of Vectorlinux 7.0. Anyone curious about what they see here should give it a try.

  • Can you do one with sending an email every day at a specific time? There's an assistant in IQ that will dump my reports into a specified folder. I then want to use cron to email those reports to a distribution list.

  • @upinflamezzz Do you have an application of choice for sending emails from the command line?

  • We use a POP3/IMAP email. Zimbra or Outlook. I have limited experience working in Linux. Red Hat. We used to have an intern who was good at this, but he has moved onto grad school.
