Scarcity of Time

What I liked about John Williams' "Air and Simple Gifts" at the Obama inauguration was the way it echoed with hope yet uncertainty. I've tried something similar.

Because I saw a 30-second spot
My mind is made and I been feeling strong
Walk and talking up the party line
Victory tastes rather alkaline
Regressed displays and senses gone awry
A marked gaze, pomp and circumstance.
She said too much, it won't matter now
Because the parade had passed
The next days are the proving grounds
Social hygiene and celebrations
Change does come from revolution
Even if it takes a hundred days

Once upon a time
Distrusted avenues
Transition perpetual
Resist compromise
Admire the symmetry
Legislate charity
Force feed eloquence
All systems go
Unhandled exception
Disaster imminent
Depressed contagious
Scarcity of time
