Sam (Donahue) is a pretty college sophomore, so desperate to earn some cash for a deposit on an apartment that she accepts a babysitting job even after she finds out there is no baby. Mr. and Mrs. Ulman (cult actors Noonan and Woronov) are the older couple who lure Sam out to their creeky Victorian mansion deep in the woods, just in time for a total lunar eclipse. Megan (Gerwig) is Sams best friend, who gives her a ride out to the house, and reluctantly leaves her there despite suspecting that something is amiss. Victor (Bowen) at first seems like just a creepy guy lurking around the house, but quickly makes it clear that Sam will end this night in a bloody fight for her life....

OH please....jack happens in the movie....i got bored...and yes I like slow built movies but this doesn't work....."The Others" created a better built up..HOTD is pure boredom...this is why HOTD flopped and "The Others" succeed and made money.

Paranormal Activity was better than this? Paranormal activity succeeds in telling an effective story on an absolute SHOE-STRING budget, (let's say a few steps above Blair Witch maybe?) but I'd suspect the budget or HOTD wasn't much bigger, and it succeeds on nearly EVERY level. Suspense, atmospheric, eerie cinematography, a EXCELLENT score, a wonderful cinematic flavor similar to movies of the 70's which is SORELY lacking today... Watch it for Dee Wallace's cameo alone...

My husband and I saw this last night and we LOVED it. The attention to "late 70s/early 80s" detail was amazing; they even put the name of the production company under the main title.
