@Kopite4life12 Yes you are right. But, There was no precedent whatsoever before this time that gave Parliament the right to judge the anointed king of England. Charlie is a hero of sorts. I am a republican but I really admire the man. No modern film/media has actually quoted his speech to the court in full, or his final speech on the scaffold and they are the most eloquent speeches ever made by any monarch( in my opinion). He is a Martyr to his cause, however flawed. You can google his speeches.

@Kopite4life12 Armies then were always from all walks of life and nations, very few conscripted but rather Shanghaied. And it is seriously doubted the King would have strayed too long from the curse the other European Monarchies followed. It gave a very bad example to the French, later. But again, not the first monarch that if not executed were killed by treason like Henri IV, and he was "Le bon roi". It is always treason to kill the head of a state, more somebody born with NO choice about.
