"(Solace my game) anyone who's been through a break-up knows you must act cheerful on the outside while the other person is hurting you so much (swing your crane, and run me through)"
@ xSwallowingDramamine I dont think its between two people. i think its between two sides of himself, or whoever is in the song. he has done something, and one side regrets it and the otherside, almost stubbornly, resists. what might have been lost is the excuse for having done it, and dont bother me is the response for the side of him disilussioned by what he has done
People in this song. "What might have been lost," person one. "Don't bother me," person two. It's when you're trying to get a point across to someone who doesn't want to listen to you. It's painful, it's beautiful, it alters the way you go about things in the future...it's a part of life. It's such an intimate song, yet Justin Vernon made it so the listener can hear his story, and also make it their own. This man's a lyrical genius, I think. I can't help but get chills every time I listen.
Again I mention that this is just my opinion...but it's really just the whole "For Emma, Forever Ago" album. Even though Vernon said he mainly started off with the tunes, then added words to go along with the sound, he did an absolutely remarkable job. Everything mentioned is pure poetry. It's just so minimally beautiful, as are most of the songs they've produced. It's just something that has a universal relationship. A relationship gone wrong. It just takes different interpretations. I see two
@clay1717: wrong song sir! You're most likely thinking of the brilliant song on his new EP, "Woods," which uses autotune and vocoders like you wouldn't believe. This guy's excellent
