Air raid sirens over Guernsey with some images and views of Guernsey. It is not intended to cause upset to anyone, just to try to give a feeling of historical ambiance to the Guernsey Liberation Day celebrations.

Until recently the air raid sirens were tested two or three times a year to check that they could be heard by everyone island wide. They were also used for the start and finish of a minute silence, such as Rememberance Sunday and Liberation Day.

Cable & Wireless Guernsey who maintain and run them now say they are too expensive to maintain and in the event of a war or nuclear disaster from the Flammanville Nuclear Power Station nearby, they will text everyone. How many parts that wear out can be in an air raid siren that don't get used much!!!

Firstly, not everyone has a mobile.
Secondly, not everyone has it turned on all the time.
Thirdly, when will we know that the minute silence has started and finished?

  • This is really reassuring knowing that you can be in war anytime soon so they have to test it out every now and then and why would you send txt mssg to every 1 to warned them what if it was on silent like you check the time and it say new mssg sent at 9:45 am it read " hey there is going to be a nuke dropped at 11 o clock bttr gtfo you see it's now 10:59

  • Heeeeyyyyyy live here i libe on the bridge

  • An old WW2 bomb factory is a couple of miles away from my school and a few months ago they were clearing the area out. As a warning that they were operating in the area they activated this air raid siren that was installed into the building many years ago. This was happening when I was sitting my exams in a big silent hall, I could hear it loud and clear.. and i was shiting myself!

  • Resistance 2 trailer

  • Beautiful horn

  • It's a new video but edited to be old. The van gives it away.

  • Looks old vid but a new BMW gives it away

  • Theres one of these on top of the marine yard at Holyhead. It used to be used about 4 times every day to say when shifts and breaks started

  • It's weird how I always hear these

  • I remember the first time I heard this around the time of the Iraq war. I shat a brick and ran for a bus shelter... but seriously, I didn't know it was a test. I'd been learning on the internet about nuclear war and it's effects.

  • @ravemaster555 ya and where i live in canada they dont have any kind of siren that i know of... not even a fuckin earthquake siren... its so stupid that ive lived in this town for almost 4 years and have not heard a single warning siren of any kind... and yet i live right on a damn fault line and they dont test out the earthquake sirens....
