Every year 80,000 horses needlessly suffer as they are transported long distances across Europe to slaughter. Exhausted, stressed, diseased, injured and travelling for days across thousands of miles: these horses are desperate for food, water and rest. Help World Horse Welfare convince the European Commission to introduce a maximum journey limit of 9 to 12 hours, ending the torment caused by these relentless journeys to slaughter.

this is discracefull i am appaled with people who buy these preciose creatures and treat them like sick i have 12 horses and i treat them like princesses they are my bffs and i will mot know wat to live for wen they die please stop this slaughter

peeps who say that horses are valued more than any other i agree BUT that doesnt mean they cant be eaten cows, pigs, chickens and many other animals get eaten and no one cares i hate to see these poor animals treated like this but maybe it wouldnt be as bad if the horses were treated with kindness and respect if they were killed humanely and if they were cared for better i dont think it would be a problem to anyone its only cuz many peepz luv these animals that nearly everyone has a problem

As far as I know, a law already exists. At least in the Netherlands. EC no 1/2005 (animal welfare during transportation) I'd have to check to be sure but I think Europe enforces these same laws about transporting slaughter horses (and cattle for that matter) So it is not so much the laws as the reinforcement that needs looking after.

Most people don't get it! Horses have served human kind from the beginning of time in a hundred more ways than any other animal. We OWE them decent treatment in return. They were never meant to be food. They were meant to serve in return for decent treatment, yet millions of horses have been ill-treated, abused, brutalized and killed without deserving it. Why do humans have to be so cruel? Maybe the abusers want to have the same treatment? I don't think they'd like it either. THINK about it.

who ever eats horses should send themselfs off on a 9-11 hour journey and be slaughtered. then they no what it would feel like....

Sadley the European market will always eat horsemeat...we cannot stop the slaughter but we can try to regulate the law so that these beautiful creatures are cared for before they are killed, surely they deserve that much. The same goes for pig and cattle ....no one cares about the appalling conditions these animals have to suffer for the greedy consumer.....

@GeordieTerrier Cows can jump, be ridden. pull carts. Why should horses be valued over them? I am a vegetarian, I am against all animal slaughter and any trade of animal bi products. But I am also a realist, having gotten horse behaviour and welfare quals at college I can safely say with factual evidence that people who try to stop slaughter are wasting their time, instead stop the abuse that happens within this slaughter! Make use of your voice! Don't waste it on a dream!

Appalling. These look like wonderful draught animals who have probably served man for years..and their reward is an exhausting journey that ends in slaughter, with no water, or food..IF people MUST have horsemeat, why not slaughter the animals at nearby places to spare them the journey. Sadly, horses and other animalswill always be eaten by greedy humans, but why should the animals have to suffer first.
