I've been moving pianos for 20 yrs in Los Angeles and there is no reason to remove the lid, unless yer going up or down a tight tricky stairway with turns. The only reason I'd take the lid off in that case would be to lighten the piano up a little and to have more places to hold the piano when your dealing with the turns in stairways. Especially if you go up a flight big end first! Those guys are FURNIE MOVERS not Piano Movers

American Knights Moving moved me from Florida to Dallas I had a small apartment and a baby grand piano and was afraid that no one would want to move me "I was turned down from other companies because of the PIANO!" They did graet job and saved me from having to do it my self!

@GalaxyMobileStorage you're genuinely lacking in spelling and grammar. Please seperate your sentences with a comma, and learn how to spell the word "why".
By the way, it's "you're lacking" not "your lacking" - one is a contraction, the other is possessive. SHEESH!

Im sorry that I had to see the comment about when you are moving a piano long distance it is beter to take the lid off.. I have moved thousands of pianos from NY to LA and every state north and south of there!! If you are moving the piano a long distance you will be doing it in a Semi. You will have several other pianos along for the ride! If you were to take the lid off of each piano you risk, scratching or droping the lid!
Mr. Galaxymobilestorage , Please view again - the shrink is over the padded piano - just another step done to make sure the pads wont move or fall off during transit. It took maybe a minute to do it - so why not?
