At the invitation of Black Beard author Keven Duffus, Virginia's infamous "Blackbeard's Crew" gathered at the very site where the Battle of Okracoke ended with the murder of Black Beard exactly 290 years prior. On a blustery, sunny day, the pyrates paraded from Blackbeard's Lodge, through the town, the woods, and onto the beach for the occasion. A single shot was fired for every pyrate and sailor lost during the battle. A memorial wreath was set to sea and the gathered pyrates sauntered back in silence to Blackbeard's Lodge for an evening of fellowship, rum, and tall tales. The Pyrates Way was on hand to document the weekend's events.
