@Samaritanable It indeed does sound like it. Unlike the old version, this version has a very limited range. When it has a general range of a fifth (touching a sixth at the end), you know it's old.

I prefer the old one with tune, been singing for years and so used to it. This new Gloria sounds like gregorian chant.

The mass commerating what Jesus did abt 2000 years ago..And by the way the PIPE ORGAN as a musical instrument was prohibited in the church...And read the psalm 150... that should tell you of what instruments should be used in the church... and Vatican 2 allows other instruments by the way...the mass is a joyful event.. not to mourn with dull music...

@resultant64 Mass is not a festival, it is a sacrificial meal. Can polyphony be incorporated into the new translation? Sure. But do we need Marty Haugen up there on the guitar? Absolutely not.

A beautiful and moving chant setting. Most of it is sung on only 3 notes, in La pentatonic, creating a minimalist affect. It is in mode three and the Amen at the end has the only half step in it, the note above the final, and makes a glorious ending.
