Just riffing out on election night with my little practice rig. I'm just rockin' some intros to songs and not being too serious. I went SPDIF into my CD recorder and used the same "Eddie Van Halen" patch for all of the riffs.

Guitar is a 1990 Hamer Centaura with a stock JB in the bridge and 2 Dimarzio Area 67's in the middle and neck positions. Strings are .010 gauge Dean Markley Blue Steels. Pick is of the yellow Dunlop tortex variety.

I boosted the bass in the Megadeath and Metallica with the Waves Max Bass plug-in. Added a touch more reverb to the VH parts and scooped the mids slightly for the George Lynch part as far as post production is concerned. But again, I used the same patch for all of the riffs.

I used first takes, so if there are little mistakes in there, I don't care because the performances were fresh and made me smile. I've never had lessons really and never sat down and learned these songs so if I am not playing them correctly sorry, but I was just havin' a bit of fun. I'm just trying to show the beauty and flexibility of the Line 6 POD X3 Live since a lot of people don't seem to understand that they are hands down the most affordable and powerful effects on the market.

I'm really just showing how a Line 6 POD X3 Live can do a supremely convincing Marshall sound. Imagine... the EVH sound with only a stock JB and a Pau Ferro fretboard. It's all at your fingertips with Line 6.

Yes, my guitar is dirty, I'm tryin' to build up the mojo. lolz.

Riff List:
Eruption/I'm the One
Holy Wars
Master of Puppets/Thing That Should Not Be/Creeping Death
Noodling
The Hunter

  • I cant resist myself from giving u a like . U were awesome . Could u tel me the song towards last 30 sec .

  • @johnywalkerize - It's "The Hunter" off of Dokken's Under Lock and Key album... and thank you very much for the like, that's very kind of you! : )

  • So great playing and epic tone. Any suggestions on how to achieve this in Pod Farm 2? I just wrote that. lol

  • @Dimeist - From there you're gonna need the MXR Phase 90 stombox too... come to think of it, you'll need the Platinum version to get everything that you'll need. With the Platinum POD Farm, you'll be able to substitute the EP-3 for the EP-1 and put a Binson Echorec in the chain for the Special FX delays (EVH used the Echoplex as a pre-amp and light echo, the Binson was used for the end dive on Eruption). I'd use the Slap Plate for Reverb and make sure to cut all of the deep bass frequencies.

  • Holy shit. Is it possible to get this tone with a Line6 UX1 with PodFarm 2?

  • @Dimeist - You're too kind good sir, if you have the free version, you might not be able to get close. But if you have the full version, then start with the 1). Marshall® Super Lead ("jumped" channels) model and experiment with the '67 or the '68 Greenbacks with 4x12 cabinet models. From there, you have more choices than the PODX3 Live, you could go with the EP-1 Tube Echoplex and use it as a preamp or use the Chandler Tube Driver Stompbox... a combination of both would work best,. Contnued...

  • Can you get a decent Vito Bratta (White Lion) tone? The solo for "Little Fighter" is so.....crisp.

  • what amp are u using

  • @theallmightyham Oh it's in my rack! For home recording it's the bomb. I love the effects. But I have a pair of well preserved '68 Plexi's (ones a tremolo model) w/ a pair of basket weaves. It has a tremendous sound without a lot of distortion & no fizz. Not very practical, but that sound.....

  • @MrUltraworld Used to Feel this way, but it's mostly in your head. I frequently dialed into much gain with the axe and couldn't get the best out of it. I still like the feeling of plugging in an amp. But for home recording the Axe slays.

  • FUCKING AWESOME

  • that tone :O-- _-__-__----__-_

  • I got the Fractal hoping to just run it through a Randall power amp & be done with amps & pedals. I tried this out in the past without luck. This didn't work out either. Maybe it's too perfect? My amps have a physical element to them,I play to them. My analog pedals have the same quality. How you play determines the tones you get, it's endless. When I play through this it feels the same no matter how I play. I need that contact that this doesn't provide

    Nice recording by the way.

  • looks like the action on the Hamer is perfect for metal riffing
