Pine trees need to be pruned in the springtime and should not be pruned halfway down but all the way back to the trunk to prevent the loss of middle inner needles. Keep pine trees healthy with proper pruning advice from a gardening specialist in this free video on trees.

I have larger pines that have growth over a roadway. They obscure the vision of some drivers. I would like to prune the overhanging branches but according to your video I would have to go back to the trunk? This would leave some large road-facing bare spots that would look unsightly to say the least.
What do you suggest? May I cut the branches just back to the roadway or is it truly best practices to cut the large branches back to the trunk?
Thanks.

Would like to have seen which limbs to prune and where to thin, how to top them, common mistakes in pruning pines, etc.
