  • Your scanner was saying the water temp sensor was reading -40°F, as in minus 40! Pretty typical for a lot of open circuit temp sensors. (Just out of passing interest, -40 is the same on both the Fahrenheit & Celsius scales. If I'm not mistaken, it's the only temp where both scales agree.) Love the videos, Thanks!

  • @rwbishop That what i thought at first minus -40 but i said could it be having never seen that reading before.

  • What's the actual part i have that problem and need to know exactly what part it is! Need help ! :/

  • @jdubb408 Could you describe how you would test the the connector? Does it involve testing the continuity back to the ECM or other component? Or are the other things involved in testing the connector? Thanks.

  • right, testing the connector itself is important too. also testing for resistance on the sensor w/o applying heat is useless. it may be within specs until a certain temp. in that case I'd grab a pyrometer, heat gun, dvom and a spec sheet including temp range.

  • If you don't clear it it should turn itself off and that way you know you fixed it.

  • nice video man! but you should tell more about what is the possible cause of the P3081 and how to test and eliminate the cause. yes -40 F (freeze frame data) looks shitty but you have live data capability why not use it, rather than talking how to remove engine cover. and visual inspection is really good but you did not test the sensor. basically sensor is just a piece of wire which you could test the resistance of it..

  • a good mechanic will always test the connector not just look at it and throw a part at it

  • That looked easy. Everything on all the euro cars i've worked on has been hard.

Vw and Audi are my favorite though.

  • Finally something that is not a Saturn. I like the VW

  • Keep the VW stuff coming!

  • If you kept the old one you could check the resistance - it's probably a really high reading or 'open'.
