Pazuzu was in fact a protector of women in childbirth and children in ancient Mesopotamian beliefs...he was the only one capable of banishing the truly evil Lamashtu to the underworld. Amulets and statues of Pazuzu were kept in the home (pointing to the door as protection against her as well as to ward off his own troubles as the demon of the south-west wind.
