Thunderstorms are scary things. Never fly near them. With an on-board satellite weather system, you may be able to operate a flight while thunderstorms in vicinity. However, according to the FAA's recommendation, it better to keep distance for at least 20 miles...

There were 2 people killed and 1 seriously injured by lightenings of this storm that day.

I wish Scoot Crossfield had an XM weather while his plane crashed in a thunderstorm in 2008
