Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon Resigning

Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon has accepted a plea deal with prosecutors. that will end her tenure as mayor. The resignation takes effect Feb. 4. City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will take over as mayor.

In a news conference Wednesday evening, Dixon said she will work closely with the next administration. She got choked up when thanking her staff and the residents of Baltimore.

"I am committed to this city in whatever capacity God has called me to do," she said. "The people are the jewels of this city."

Dixon said she disappointed herself, her supporters and the
citizens of Baltimore. She said she was sad because has a great staff, not because of the decision she made.

Dixon, 56, was found guilty by a jury last month of misappropriating about $500 in gift cards donated to the city for distribution to needy families during her time as City Council president. Had she not agreed to step down, she could have been thrown out of office.

I never ever want to be disrespectful to former Mayor Sheila Dixon. I don't want to be anything but the best CHILD OF GOD that I can be. God called us to love another. I'm just disappointed that I have approached this woman more times than my pride has had stregnth to withstand. She never treated me with mutual respect, she didn't treat my idea with any interest, I didn't feel like I was seen as a "jewel" in this city. Basically, she made me feel that contacting her was a waste of time

Whats' so sad about this is it never had to come to this. I find racism of BLACK AGAINST BLACK to be the biggest problem in this city. The people and the jewels of this city tried to speak with the mayor about our ideas and concerns. There is a rutheless class war going on between black people in this city, and once again we are ignorantly pitted against one another. "Would a man rob God?", Did God put Sheila in her position to roll her eyes, and ignore people with concerns.
