Plant was inspired by mythology and Tolkein's work. And if you have half a brain, you'll know he wrote LOTR. And if I'm right, there is a Misty Mountain in the hobbit. Coincidence? I think not.

the fact is this song,Misty mountain,ramble on,and no quarter have references to the hobbit 1937 as well as other books written by J.R.R Tolkien.who was the author of Lord of the rings as well.fellow ship of the rings was written in 53 or 54.all the before mentioned songs do have a reference to the hobbit,and lord of the rings sagas....plant himself said he is a true fan of Tolkien.just an observation...

The song, like some others by the group, makes references to The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. Plant felt he needed another voice to tell the story and for the recording of this song folk singer Sandy Denny was invited to duet with Plant.
