Performed on 'The Andy Williams Show', September 20, 1965, 'Rock A Bye Your Baby (With A Dixie Melody)' had been a part of Judy's repertoire since the early 50's, and most notably sung at Carnegie Hall, April 23, 1961.

Words by Sam Lewis and Joe Young, music by Jean Schwartz, 1918.

Rock a bye, your baby,
with a dixie melody.
When you croon, croon a tune,
from the heart of dixie.
Just hang my cradle, mammy mine,
right on that masoned, dixen line.
And swing it from virginia, to tennesse,
with all the love that's in ya.
Weep no more, my lady,
sing that song again, for me.
Sing on black joe, just as though,
you have me on your knees.
A Million baby kisses, i'll deliver,
if you will only play that swanee river.
Rock a bye your rock a bye baby,
with a dixie melody.
OH!!Weep no more, my lady,
sing that song again, for me.
Sing on black joe, just as though,
you have me on your knees.
A Million baby kisses, i'll deliver,
if you will only play that swanee river.
Rock a bye your rock a bye baby,
with a dixie melody!

  • <3 she has the most magical voice to ever grace God's green earth.

  • and swing it, from Virginia... to Tennessee with all the love that's in ya!

Fantastic as always Judy, forever missed <3

  • @missgreeneyes56 No one will ever come close to Judy! And it's mainly because her daughter's voices aren't natural, they had to take singing lessons. Judy's voice was natural though!! :)

  • great Judy!

  • Actually, they did it in a higher key than Judy normally does. (It's Andy's show, so he probably decided that :/) That's why she didn't knock the hell out of the song as usual... It was too high.

    <3<3<3 Judy!!

  • on 2:18-19 Judy could have WIPED Andy Out on that Note, because thats the Bridge of this particular song and Usually Pulls out her BRavdo in the voice Notes to finish the song..but repected Andys Lower key and after all it Is his show..but she really normally Belts the HELL out of this song. andy did ok..but it was a mistake to sing this song with Judy. she was too powerful..but she did a nice job of Holding back

  • I love this version! Fantastic. I have seen it before and may have even watched it originally since I searched for her every performace on TV. But I just noticed she changed the lyric. Only a year earlier on her TV show she was still singing the original Al Jolson "Old Black Joe" lyric. But here they changed it "sweet and low". It's easy to see the impact of civil rights and that they were being both sensitive and progressive on the show.

  • Who cares what I say but she was so fabulous. her daughters don't come close.

  • Love this version of Rock-a-Bye. So cool

  • Judy fans I'm sure you all know but her rock a bye baby on Live at Carnegie Hall must have been something to see anyone out there that did email me @pusspleaser134@aol.com I would love to talk to you!!! R.I.P. The very Lovely Judy Garland.........Barb........
