(Mathew Krogen): "I said, 'I am the clay. Mold me.' And so they took charge and I ended up like this."

Mathew Krogen is shaving for St. Baldrick's for the third year in a row.

(Mathew Krogen): "Last year had the beard, this year a mullet, maybe next year a mustache."

Brent Wetzel is on the same track. He heads up the team from NISC.

(Brent Wetzel): "This looks like something good to do. The first year we had three people at NISC. Last year ... we have seven or eight. This year, we had about 12."

"A small, do you want to see a small."

Every volunteer who raises money for St. Baldrick's -- and childhood cancer research -- does it for their own reason. The VIP shavee this year --

(Dr. Craig Lambrecht): "It's kind of soothing!"

Dr. Craig Lambrecht, the CEO of Medcenter One hospital.

(Dr. Craig Lambrecht): "When you look at what kids go through and the phenomenon of just losing their hair or fighting the battle with their parents, this is such an easy, symbolic gesture. It's easy."

(Holly Burch/Bismarck State College): "It feels really good because it's hot in here. (laugh) I kept telling them, 'Oh, this feels really good!'"

This group from Bismarck State College did it because they couldn't see why not.

(Holly Burch/BSC): "(laughs) I did this to have fun. There have been sick kids, all of them have recovered fortunately, on both my side and my husband's side of the family. I just decided last year I would do this, and my husband said, 'I don't care,' so I did."

(Wendy Steidler): "So, I will be shaving heads and getting my own head shaved today too."

Wendy Steidler is a hair stylist. She's shaving Cassandra Brazell -- a client of ten years. Then Cassandra is shaving Wendy.

(Wendy Steidler): "I did get a wig, but I'm going to do a little bit of everything, just to have fun with it."

(Ted Cash/Emcee): "I just want you to tell us how much you raised." Pam Wohlsdorf: "Well, on the website when I left school, it was $5,475, and I sent in about $400 worth of checks last night. (cheers)"

Pam Wohlsdorf is shaving in honor of a former student -- Matthew Watson, who died from cancer in 2009.

(Pam Wohlsdorf): "It'll grow back. I have a choice. The other ones don't."

And if they don't shave, they find other ways to pitch in.

(Joe Leingang): "Of course, the chocolate items are, um - I'm not going to be able to survive this today. I'm going to eat the table."

Joe Leingang has shaved in the past -- this year, he's helping to run the bake sale.

(Joe Leingang): "I'm so proud of Basin Electric for doing this."

The St. Baldrick's event in Bismarck has grown so big... it was moved to Bismarck State College's National Energy Center of Excellence. The days leading up to today were filled with goodness. Bismarck Bobcats hockey jerseys were auctioned off after a Monday night game -- one brought in a high bid of $1,000!

(sound): Wayne Child shaving

And a longtime member of the Basin Electric board shaved at the end of the March board meeting. Wayne Child says he wants to raise money to find a cure for childhood cancer and he can't imagine any of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren going through cancer. The stylist who shaved his head says it was an honor.

(Jill Mari): "To know their heart and passion, and everything they've done and worked so hard for and created, is absolutely amazing."

Jill Mari says shaving Mr. Child helped her prepare for the big day

(Jill Mari): "I prefer the Mohawk method, so you start on the sides first. (laughs)"
