[continued]...............Espe­cially if what follows is not a negative comment, I wouldn’t take it to mean that they hate my race or think of me as a “cracker”, but it does show that for whatever reason, perhaps because they have limited experience with other races, they tend to see other races as a separate group rather than us all being individuals who share the same world.

[continued].......It’s especially bad if “you people” is said before some negative comment or stereotype, but as long as what follows is either a compliment or a neutral statement, though it is still annoying, I wouldn’t take it to mean they are thinking of me as “cracker”, or the “n” word (if I were black and it were white people saying it to me).

I’m white and I understand what you mean because my black boyfriend and other close black friends have sometimes talked to me about white people saying “you people….” or “y’all….” And it bothered me because I felt like they were viewing the world too much with an “us against them” or a “black vs. white” mentality. I felt like they were lumping me together with all whites as a separate group or like a separate category of human being. So, I understand what you mean.

Repost: That comment is racist. I wonder what the response would have been if the tables were turned? Say if, at the gathering were mostly African American attending and only one white guy and someone said something like "you crackers,honkies..get all the lazy ass jobs" I don't think the response would have been so calm...do you?

He was right - african american people don't age! I'm so jealous! But he should have been more sensitive when saying "your kind". Is he saying he is an alien or something? Sheesh. Everyone is the same race to me - its called human. And like you said: "If you're cool, you're cool. If you're not, you're not."

hey! i know i'm commenting rather late on this vid. i just wanted to say that these kinds of comments are actually quite common, especially in Europe..I admire you for saying that you're over the racist stuff but unfortunately a lot of people "who think they're in power" are not, because it is to some degree what sustains their power.
