Johnny Mathis ~ My Foolish Heart ~

Once again, Johnny brings his utter magic drawing us in- (spellbinding !) - when singing this beautiful song. "My Foolish Heart" was on several lists of top romantic love songs for Valentine's Day this year - it would be on my list any year- I love this song. It's such a beautiful number and has been performed by jazz musicians and singers since it's debut in 1949. Music by Victor Young and lyrics by Ned Washington, it was composed and accompanied a movie of the same name that year- also nominated for an Academy Award. Whether backed by an orchestra, or accompanied by solo piano or guitar, audiences are enthralled when Johnny sings this ( I am searching for a word beyond "sing"-- he does so much more than 'sing'). Fortunate to have seen him perform this live a few times in recent years - the last of which was was, I believe, with piano (conductor and pianist Scott Lavender), and guitarist Gil Reigers, (i recall he and Gil sitting together on stools- as they do)- and Johnny remarking at the end ... "That's really a pretty song.". I know the audience felt the same and more- as I hope you do!

This has not been released on any recordings- hopefully that will be a gift to come- (!). This is from a performance in 1993.

Whether you celebrate Valentine's Day as a symbol of love in your life- or in your own special way throughout the year- 'many a tear could fall' listening to this beauty- and sung by the one and only. Light the candles, pour the wine, dip the strawberries - and Enjoy!

Have just seen Johnny sing this song at his three concerts in England and he was FANTASTIC!!! His voice is pure velvet and simply stunning. Thank you for posting this as it brings back some very special memories.

Back in my school days, I attended Roosevelt Jr. High in S.F. with Johnny. He sang this beautiful song at a school rally...He sounded just as good then as he does now!

I just saw him in concert in Sacramento, CA last Saturday....PHENOMENAL! He's still able to hit the high ones, and this song was just almost enough to make me slide right out of my seat. He's such an amazing voice. It's so refreshing to hear MUSIC...not screaming, not language, or things offensive to this group of that...just wonderful, talented voice...one that could sing ANYTHING. Well worth it, even for nosebleed seats! WOW.
