@contrymnon You are right. Like you, i am very picky about the appropriate tempo for this work---and this orchestra and conductor are spot on. You can enjoy the shape, drama and pizzazz of the piece--so many conductors rush it and take all the drama out. Its a marvelous overture.

this has ti be one of the best overtures.
I love the Poet and Peasant - Suppe plus the Barber of Seville - Rossini also. There are so many great overtures. I always recommend these three, along with others.

Amazing! Tempo is perfect! It's just my optimum tempo and attitude. This overture is truly being mistaken as a piece for racing amongst the orchestra? Play it faster doesn't mean better. Every single note is clean, crisp, bouncy, fun and spring just like an overture should be. Perfect I say. MAGNIFICENT.
