You give it data, and later ask for it back. Hurray, all is well. Or is it? What's really going on under the hood? How much of your resources is the database activity taking up? How much capacity do you have left? Is the database itself in good standing? This discussion will involve different ways to keep an eye on Postgres. Lets monitor things, shall we?
Abstract

Tools like tail_n_mail should be a part of any PostgreSQL installation. We'll run through some scenarios for watching log files, installing check_postgres into your Nagios infrastructure, and a few other ways to keep tabs on your database and its environment.
