I just wore good quality lightweight outdoor clothing - a lot of wool clothing (it doesn't stink, keeps you warm when its cold, cool when it's hot). My ankles and feet did get quite sore after a while, and that's why I changed from teh carbon fibre board (the one in this video) to a wooden board, which was much better (absorbs vibrations much better).
At the beginning I did indeed have a cycle computer hooked up to record speed and distance. In the end I switched to a GPS for the following reasons: First, vibrations from the road caused the computer unit to malfunction, and second, any speed over 35km/h and the unit would no longer register any faster due to the high revolutions of the sensor magnet (too small wheels).
I only used a longboard, as I have done for the last year. I have now skateboarded 9,500km overland across Europe, the US, and China. Bern to Olten was one of the easiest days of the entire trip. I do not cheat (take rides).

Are you running a cyclocomputer? I see something on the front right fender.
