Are you ready to take a wild ride with Brother Echo and the crazy raw bunch from the west coast? Well ready or not here we go!
In this video Brother Echo ventures out to one of New York's most well known Raw foodie establishments, "Pure Food and Wine". PFW, is a relatively large venue with a wonderful sexy dining room dimly lit and full of feng shui. In addition to the large dining area there is an even more impressive patio area in the back.
The first thing you'll notice when stepping into PFW is that the entrance is sunken and you have about 3 or 4 steps to go down before you can enter. I love this sunken segue, for me it really sets the tone that I'm stepping into a new environment and it invites one to get into the space physically and figuratively.
Once inside you will notice a beautiful and large dining area with plenty of well spaced tables as well as a wine bar. PFW has all the normal things you would hear in any other restaurant, glasses clinking, people laughing, a warm smiling host but what you won't find are random smells of cooked foods coming from the kitchen. In all actuality the air inside PFW was fresh, alive and crisp which is surprising being that it is situated on one of New York's busiest streets (54 Irving Pl 17th Street).
The group and I made our way through the dining area where we had four tables waiting for us in the back area of the patio. Once we were seated, we were greeted promptly by our server and the festivities began.
When we arrived it was a bit early but as the evening went on the patio area was full in no time at all. After a brief trip to the restroom inside it was obvious that PFW has a good reputation around town as there wasn't an empty table in the house. It was a sight to see, people laughing, yelling and having a good time I think there was a World Cup game on and that's what all the fuss was about.
Anyhow, back at our table the food kept coming and we actually received some wonderful appetizers courtesy of the management team. I'm not sure why we were so lucky perhaps they knew we came all the way from Santa Monica (Raw Food Mecca) and we're pretty spoiled out this way with a wide variety of Raw food restaurants. Whatever the reason for the delicious olives, mushrooms and other treats I supposed it doesn't matter, what matters is we finished it all in minutes... yummy!
I think this is an appropriate place to stop writing for this post because I'm planning on going back to PFW on my next trip to New York and I want to write a proper review, it doesn't seem right doing it now not having met the owner Sarma Melngailis.
So with that said... enjoy this place holder video for now and stay tuned for the real deal in-depth tour and review of Pure Food and Wine, New York City!
Peace, Love, Unity and Respect!
