I always use this aftercare product and have never had a tattoo get infected: http://amzn.to/inkfixx

I have an info page with info here: http://abettertrip.com/sak-yant-tattoos/ We were in Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat and the other temples there. I decided to track down an Ajarn and receive a yant, continuing the work on my back, while there.

The roots of Sak Yant go back to ancient Khmer and the letters are Khom and the Katha are in Pali.

I was fortunate enough to find Ajarn Prak Sokdarenn who is located near Wat Tmey. Even more fortunate, his work is such that there were two monks waiting their turn after me. That's a good sign :)

I found the pain level different, but manageable receiving it from a tattoo gun rather than the Mai Sak. All in all, I feel it was a successful experience, and though it hasn't completely healed yet (It's been roughly a week, should take two) I'm very happy with the results.

"What is a yant?"

As per the wiki @ wikipedia.org:

Sak yant (Thai: สักยันต), also called yantra tattooing, is a form of sacred tattooing practiced in Southeast Asian countries, including Cambodia and Thailand. Sak yant are normally tattooed by Buddhist monks or Brahmin priests.

NPR just wrote an article about the Yant:

  • The yant originated from ancient Cambodia.

  • I ensure you guys, to have this real stick on your skin, there must be pain during the process. Yant Sak (Simple English holly tattooO is believed to have some hidden strength to help when you face any obstacle (but based on what Kind Yant Sak you have). For the Angkor Period or earlier, All Khmer Soldiers had Yant on their bodies, didn't they?

It is a mysterious belief that Khmer has for about or more than 2 millenniums of years.
