Guiding Light - August 1982 - Silas Kidnaps Nola

As Nola begins packing, the conversation she just had with Mrs. Renfield rings through her mind, and then she recalls when Quint told her he wants her to think of this house as her and Kelly Louise's home. Silas Crocker then steps out from behind the drapes and catches Nola when she tries to make a break for it, clapping his hand over her mouth to keep her from calling for help and dragging her back into the room, closing the door behind them. They hear Mrs. Renfield calling for the dogs in the hall. Crocker tells Nola not to force him to use his gun, then tells her she's going to finish packing before Renfield and the manservant come back from looking for the Dobermans, though they'll have a long search. He trains his gun on her as she finishes packing, and she asks what he's going to do with her. Crocker tells Nola they're going away together, and Nola's going to help Crocker get the Golden Cradle and the other valuable artifacts from Quint before he turns them over to the New York museum. He knows everything that's going on around the Thornway Road house, and he even knows the Reardons rather well from all the hanging around he did at the boarding house waiting for a chance to grab her. He even knows where Quint is right now. Nola tells Crocker that his plan won't work because she and Quint aren't even talking to each other right now. Crocker just laughs and says he guesses he knows more about the situation than she does, because Quint's been moping around the house since he came back, and it's not just losing the Golden Temple that's affecting his mood, because he's still in love with Nola. That's how Crocker knows he'll get those things back from Quint: because Quint knows that's the only way he'll ever see Nola again. After forcing her to finish packing, Quint threatens Mrs. Renfield to Nola, then orders her to answer her ringing phone so they don't arouse suspicion, reminding her he'll be right next to her. Nola answers the phone, and it's Maureen. Maureen asks if there's something wrong because Nola sounds so strange, but Nola says nothing's wrong. This just hasn't been easy for her. Crocker tells her to keep it short. Nola tells Maureen she has to finish and get out of here, but Maureen tells Nola that she and Ed have decided to come out to the house and pick Nola up. Nola tells Maureen not to do that, but Maureen says that Ed's already made up his mind, and Ed has invited Nola to his house for dinner and maybe a swim. Nola says that's very nice of Ed, but she can't do that. Maureen wants to know why not, but all Nola says is that she can't. Maureen knows by the sound of Nola's voice that she's going through a very bad time, and Maureen doesn't think Nola should be alone, so Maureen and Ed will be out there to pick Nola up in about ten minutes. Nola asks how Kelly Louise is, and Maureen reports that she's fine. Nola asks Maureen to give Kelly Louise a big kiss from her, and Maureen asks what's wrong. Maureen asks if there's someone there with Nola. Silas Crocker tells Nola to say goodbye and hang up. Nola tells Maureen she has to say goodbye now, and to give her love to everyone, and she hangs up. Crocker tells Nola to finish the damn packing before he loses his patience completely.

Silas takes Nola to an old, deserted freighter and ties her up, complete with a gag in her mouth, telling her no one will ever think to look for them there, and that he'd like Nola's opinion on this letter he's writing to Quint. Silas wonders if the tables were turned and he was in Quint's place, would he give up one Golden Cradle worth a king's ransom for one Nola Reardon? Nola gives a muffled shriek when she sees a rat, and Silas tells her to get used to the rats because the ship is full of them.

Meanwhile, Quint tells Mrs. Renfield that he'll be spending the next few days packing the Golden Cradle and other artifacts and delivering them to the New York museum himself, and perhaps he can put an end to this entire chapter of his life.

  • Unfortuently, all these videos are so out of sync, I don't understand half of what's going on. :-(

  • @jezzfan The audio that was in sync in the video I uploaded, it ended up being out of sync after YouTube rendered it. The problem was corrected during this storyline and all videos after that should be in sync.
