American journalist Bill Carter suggested to Bono an idea to film a documentary based on Sarajevo's underground resistance movement. Not only did Bono produce the film, he also provided the funds needed to support the project. Taken from the sleeves notes to Original Soundtracks "The camera follows the organizers through the tunnels and cellars or the city, giving a unique insight into life during a modern :war, where civilians are the targets. The film captures the dark humour of the besieged Sarajevans, their stubborn refusal to be :demoralized and suggests that surrealism and Dadaism are the appropriate responses to fanaticism." -Bono [2]

Bono went on to say that he felt that these lyrics reflected what the people of Sarajevo were feeling at the time. Original Soundtracks 1 is an album of songs based mostly on non-existent films; however, "Miss Sarajevo" is one of four tracks from the album that are based on real films. The film Miss Sarajevo is a documentary by Bill Carter about a beauty pageant held in the midst of war-torn Sarajevo, Bosnia. The winner was a 17-year-old blonde named Inela Nogić. Carter traveled to Sarajevo in the winter of 1993 to offer humanitarian aid and quickly found himself in the heart of the conflict. He lived for six months in a burnt-out office building, subsisting on baby food and whatever water he could find in the rivers and sewers and delivering food and medicine to those in need.

Clips from the documentary contain striking imagery, such as a shot of beauty pageant contestants holding up a banner with the words "DON'T LET THEM KILL US," as seen on the single's artwork

"Dici che il fiume
trova la via al mare
E come il fiume
giungerai a me
Oltre i confini
e le terre assetate
Dici che come fiume
come fiume
L'amore giunger
L'amore
E non so pi pregare
E nell'amore non so pi sperare
E quell'amore non so pi aspettare"

  • Worst clip ever...

  • @SoKoFLiKo11 Yeah, maybe you are right, especially if you'll tell us under which criteria it happens to be the worst clip ever, then you will be totally justified.

  • This is one of U2's very, very finest songs. They play it all laid back, apparently relaxed and chilled out, yet simmering with anger. You keep waiting for something to explode. And things just soar when Pavarotti's voice appears. His voice is the release that the song is waiting for. A very moving song accompanied, rather uncomfortably, by a disturbing, emotional and perturbing video.

    Bono.

  • QUE VIVE LA BOSNIA, VIVE SARAJEVO

  • Βono surely felt like a fly next to Luciano...

  • @rodasalejandria

OK,maybe that's a fact,I really don't know. But,as I see it - this is the way to say ; SOMETHING IS F...... WRONG! Remember ZooTV tour from Wembley and the live broadcast to Sarajevo. Whole Londond (and Eng probably) heard it! And, that's the point. They are rock stars, politicians are the ones to blame, they provoked the war and stoled funds later....

  • niesamowita piosenka

  • love this song !!! nostalgic moments...

  • @rodasalejandria

Damm your dumb, They could make much more money playing regular rock songs about girls and fast cars. Instead they wanned to direct peopels attention to people of Bośnia. As I see some of them are not worth it.

Bono and his cunt wife did an ad campaign for Louis Vuitton a couple years back. The cover image was the pair disembarking a private plane somewhere in Africa with about 20 different pieces of luggage, the cost of any one being enough to feed an entire village in Africa for a month.

Not a hippie or anything, but that kind of struck a nerve when I saw it.
