In 1988 I saw a motorcade escorting President Reagan from PBIA to Boca Raton, FL (about 30 miles).

They closed both directions of Interstate 95 for the entire motorcade route.

The Reagan motorcade was much bigger than the one shown here. Plus, there were multiple local police vehicles at every on and off ramp along the I-95 route (approximately 20 interchanges with 4 ramps each).

Remember, it's not just the man they're protecting, but the institution itself.
